Modeling the Effects of Hydrodynamics on Thermal Stratification and Algal Blooms in the Xiangxi Bay of Three Gorges Reservoir

چکیده

Algal blooms have been reported in some tributary bays since the initial impoundment of Three Gorges Reservoir, which has seriously affected water ecology and drinking safety. Hydrodynamics plays a crucial role algae growth. The recent numerical models hydrodynamics quality are effective to identify effects on phytoplankton find potential strategies for controlling algal blooms. In this study, CE-QUAL-W2 model was applied simulate Xiangxi Bay (XXB) Reservoir. performed well simulating flow patterns, temperature profile, results indicated that showed spatial temporal differences XXB. mouth area, intensity plunge depth density currents were dynamic characterized by typical seasonal pattern. transformation from interflow overflow will provide more opportunities vertical mixing, resulting un-stratification reducing However, middle upper areas, strong stratification low velocity at upstream enough favorable conditions growth increase simulation revealed variation mixing explains Chl.a. It played vital dynamics succession

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

Methane formation and consumption processes in Xiangxi Bay of the Three Gorges Reservoir

Indoor simulation experiment was carried out to evaluate the formation and consumption rates of methane (CH4) in Xiangxi Bay of the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR), China. The results show that both the CH4 formation and consumption rates were significantly positively correlated with temperature. CH4 efflux decreased with rising temperature due to its potential increasing oxidation rate. CH4 oxida...

Temporal variation of methane flux from Xiangxi Bay of the Three Gorges Reservoir

Three diel field campaigns and one monthly sampling campaign during June 2010-May 2011 were carried out to investigate the CH4 flux across the water-gas interface in Xiangxi Bay of the Three Gorges Reservoir, China. The average CH4 flux was much less than that reported from reservoirs in tropic and temperate regions. The photosynthesis of phytoplankton dominated the diel gas fluxes during alga ...

Influence Factors Analysis to Chlorophyll a of Spring Algal Bloom in Xiangxi Bay of Three Gorges Reservoir

To study the relationship between environmental variables and chlorophyll a of spring algal bloom in Xiangxi Bay of Three Gorges Reservoir, stepwise multiple binomial regression and grey relative analysis methods were adopted. In surveys, 13 stations have been investigated and 143 samples were collected weekly from March 4 to May 13 in 2007. The study shows environmental variables (turbidity, t...
